DigDeep’s DWIC (Decentralized Wastewater Innovation Cohort)

Hawaiʻi’s drinking water and coastal ecosystems are threatened by human sewage and failing septic systems. We are far from the only state that is facing similar issues. We are proud to be part of DigDeep’s Water's Decentralized Wastewater Innovation Cohort, a community driven effort to improve understanding of the wastewater challenges remote communities face.

WAI & Cinderella Eco Group Collaborate on Installation of Incineration Toilet at HIMB

WAI installs a new incineration toilet at Hawaiʻi Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB) on Moku O Leo Island. The WAI team worked closely with HIMB director Judy Lemus to install Hawaiʻi’s first incineration toilet.

February CRAP Pau Hana feat. James Roberts

Our February CRAP Pau Hana featured James Roberts of WaiHome. James presented on WaiHome's exciting new wastewater treatment system that uses a solar panel with algae to passively aerate and remove nutrients from wastewater.

January CRAP Pau Hana feat. Christina Comfort

Our January CRAP Pau Hana presentation was from WAI Program Manager and Water Quality Scientist Christina Comfort who discussed sewage pollution and how it affects the water quality in Hawaiʻi. She covered WAIʻs new water quality page, Sea Sick Symptom Tracker, and a sensor experiment that will happen later this year.
